WICKNELL CHIVAYO AND WIFE REPORTEDLY AMONG VICTIMS OF MARONDERA HELICOPTER CRASH
Zimbabwe is mourning following a tragic helicopter crash in the Marondera area east of Harare, with businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy โLuluโ Muteke Chivayo, reportedly among those who lost their lives.
The crash happened on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, in the Marondera Rural area at around 5pm.
Zimbabwean authorities have confirmed that the aircraft crashed and that there were no survivors.
Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana confirmed the tragedy, saying a high-profile businessman was among those aboard the aircraft alongside other passengers and two pilots. He said preliminary information indicated that nobody survived the crash.

Local reports, including ZimLive, subsequently identified Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy โLuluโ Muteke, as being among those who died.

Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana said the Zimbabwe Republic Police would formally confirm the identities of those who died.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police initially reported that an aircraft carrying six occupants had crashed in the Marondera Rural area.
A subsequent government statement described the aircraft as carrying a high-profile businessman, four passengers and two pilots. That description would amount to seven people, creating an apparent discrepancy in the early information released by authorities.
The exact circumstances that led to the crash have not yet been established publicly.
Emergency personnel and police attended the scene, while further investigations are expected to establish what happened.
Authorities are also expected to formally identify all those who were aboard the aircraft.
