Trenance Park, KwaZulu-Natal – A 17-year-old Grade 10 learner from Trenance Park Secondary School was seriously injured after being stabbed in the neck during an altercation on Thursday, August 21, 2025. The incident has heightened concerns about escalating school violence in the region.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and responded promptly to the school. Upon arrival, responders found the student lying prone in the office area with a large kitchen knife protruding from the back of his neck, bleeding profusely. A passerby had assisted the injured teen back to the school to seek help.
According to the victim, he was returning to his residence in Amaoti, KwaZulu-Natal, when he was confronted by three fellow students from the same school. An altercation ensued, during which one of the assailants produced the knife and attacked him. The trio fled the scene immediately after the incident. The reasons behind the altercation remain unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
RUSA officers stabilized the student at the scene before he was transported for medical treatment. The condition of the victim was not disclosed in immediate reports.
This incident follows a troubling pattern of violence in KwaZulu-Natal schools, with another recent stabbing reported in the province. Authorities are urging community members with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
