The tragic incident occurred as the family was returning home to Umlazi after visiting relatives. Their vehicle reportedly collided with a truck along the N2, a major highway that has seen numerous accidents over the years. In a heartbreaking twist, the driver of the vehicle survived the crash, but all six passengers were killed instantly. KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Social Development, Mbali Shinga, attended the funeral to offer condolences on behalf of the provincial government. In her address, she expressed profound sorrow over the loss and reaffirmed her department’s commitment to supporting the affected family. The Social Relief of Distress program has already been activated to provide essential assistance, including food parcels, emotional support, and temporary aid to help the family cope in the weeks ahead.
