The province of Limpopo is reeling from shock and disbelief after a gruesome and heartbreaking crime that has left an entire village traumatised. Lesiba David Ledwaba, a 40-year-old man from Sebora Village near Polokwane, is at the centre of a horrific murder case involving the brutal killing of his own 87-year-old mother, Raisibe Ledwaba.
This week, Lesiba appeared once again in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court for a bail hearing. He stands accused of a chilling act of matricide that has drawn outrage and sadness from across the country. According to reports, Lesiba allegedly murdered his elderly mother and then dismembered her body, hiding the remains inside plastic buckets.
Authorities launched an investigation after concerned community members raised the alarm. Raisibe had not been seen for three days, prompting neighbours and relatives to become suspicious. Their worst fears were confirmed when police arrived at the family home and made a horrifying discovery.
“Upon investigation, they were met by a very disturbing scene, where they discovered the woman’s dismembered body parts placed inside the plastic buckets,” confirmed Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
A bloodied axe and hacksaw were reportedly recovered from the crime scene, believed to have been used in the gruesome act. Police immediately arrested Lesiba Ledwaba, who initially declined legal representation but has now requested a legal aid attorney.
The shocking nature of the crime has left the Sebora Village community shaken to its core. Many residents who knew Raisibe Ledwaba described her as a kind, humble, and elderly woman who did not deserve such a brutal end. The community is struggling to come to terms with how a son could allegedly commit such a monstrous act against his own mother.
Meanwhile, public reaction has been one of outrage, sorrow, and calls for justice. Social media has been flooded with messages demanding accountability and expressing sympathy for the late Raisibe. Many South Africans have used hashtags like #JusticeForRaisibe and #LimpopoHorrorto raise awareness and demand a thorough investigation and trial.
As the case proceeds, all eyes remain on the Seshego Magistrate’s Court. The nation awaits answers, hoping that justice will prevail in one of the most disturbing crimes to hit Limpopo in recent memory.
Lesiba David Ledwaba remains in custody as the court deliberates on his bail application. The community and the nation alike continue to mourn the tragic and senseless loss of Raisibe Ledwaba — a life ended in a manner too brutal to comprehend.
