
Six Killed in Mpumalanga Tavern Shooting, Community in Shock
Six people were killed and several others injured in a tragic shooting at a tavern in Pienaar, Mpumalanga, during the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to police, the victims included five men and one woman. The attack has left the community in shock, with growing calls to address the issue of gun violence in the area.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli confirmed the incident. He said that some injured people were taken to the hospital for treatment. “The motive for the shooting is still under investigation. More details will be shared as the investigation progresses,” Mdhluli stated.
Reports suggest that about six people were injured in the shooting, but the exact number of victims and the severity of their injuries are yet to be confirmed.
Community Leaders Speak Out
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Jackie Macie strongly condemned the attack, calling it a senseless act of violence.
“One lost life is too many. This incident is shocking, and we send our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. We also wish the injured a speedy recovery,” he said.
Macie revealed that two suspects have been taken into custody for questioning. He also expressed concern about the high number of illegal firearms in the province.
“We are working hard to remove illegal guns from the streets and to arrest those who carry unlicensed firearms,” he added.
Appeal for Public Assistance
The MEC urged witnesses to come forward with any information that could help the police solve the case. He also called on the shooters to turn themselves in.
“We do not tolerate murder in Mpumalanga. Anyone with information should report it to the police immediately,” he said.
Macie expressed confidence in the police’s ability to handle the case, highlighting the strong relationship between law enforcement and the Pienaar community.
“This incident has caused fear in the community, but we are confident that the police will bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said.
