Teacher Granted Bail as Court Case Continues at Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court
A mathematics teacher from Ivory Park Secondary School has been granted bail following a formal application heard at the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
The educator, identified as Edward Steven Zunguza, 37, appeared before the court in connection with a serious allegation involving a learner. According to information presented during the proceedings, the case relates to an incident that allegedly occurred in December 2025 and involves a 17-year-old pupil from the same school.
During the bail hearing, Zunguza denied the allegation against him and indicated to the court that he intends to plead not guilty when the matter proceeds. He also stated that he is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation and has remained in communication with the investigating officer assigned to the case.

In addition, Zunguza assured the court that he would comply with any conditions set and emphasized that he would not attempt to interfere with the investigation in any way. He specifically undertook not to make contact—directly or indirectly—with the complainant, her guardian, or any potential witnesses linked to the case. He further told the court that he does not pose a risk to the community.
After considering the submissions from both the defence and the State, the court ruled in favour of granting bail. It was also noted during proceedings that the complainant did not oppose the bail application.
However, the court imposed strict conditions aimed at ensuring the safety of all parties and the integrity of the investigation. Zunguza is prohibited from contacting the complainant, her family, or any witnesses connected to the matter. He is also not allowed to go within 50 metres of Ivory Park Secondary School. The court made it clear that any violation of these conditions would result in immediate consequences, including possible arrest.
At the time of the court’s decision, Zunguza remained in custody pending the payment of bail. Once the bail amount is paid, he will be released under the strict terms outlined by the court.
The case has been postponed to 6 May 2026 to allow for further investigation. During this time, authorities are expected to continue gathering evidence and preparing for the next stage of legal proceedings.
As with all ongoing cases, the matter remains before the court, and no final conclusions have been reached. All parties involved are entitled to a fair legal process as the case continues.
