The body of a missing two-year-old boy has been recovered by the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) near Hartbeespoort Dam. The toddler had disappeared on Thursday afternoon while playing in a field close to a subsidiary river leading to the dam, near the N4 Magalies Freeway in Tshwane.

Authorities launched an intensive search operation that included NSRI rescue swimmers, a strategic rescue unit, police divers, emergency medical services, and a police helicopter. The child’s family had last seen him near the river area before he went missing, prompting immediate search efforts.

The boy’s body was found on Friday and was retrieved from the river by police divers. NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam station commander Arthur Crewe confirmed the tragic news, stating that the child’s remains had been placed in the care of police and the Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
