Bronwin, described by her family as a joyful and vibrant young woman, had been eagerly looking forward to the new school year. Her sister, Lauren, shared that Bronwin was excited about starting Grade 11 and had already made plans to prepare for school. “She was very excited and even told us we needed to do her hair for school,” Lauren recalled.

Bronwin lived with her grandmother, who had sent her to the shop to buy bread when the tragedy unfolded.

According to Lauren, Bronwin was walking back home when she encountered a vehicle on the road. Gunmen inside the car began shooting at her. “As she was running, they chased after her,” Lauren said. “She was first shot in the back. Then the shooter approached her and shot her in the face.”

The senseless attack has left the family devastated. Lauren described her sister as someone who was always full of life. “Bronwin was a very joyful person. She was talkative, always laughing and joking around,” she said.

Captain Frederick van Wyk, spokesperson for the Western Cape police, confirmed the shooting incident, which took place on Junker Street at around 8:50 p.m. He stated that officers arrived at the scene to find Bronwin lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the back.

The vehicle used in the attack was later found abandoned and was determined to have been hijacked in Bishop Lavis in July 2024. The car has been handed over as evidence for processing. However, no arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.
